Commenting is the internet home territory, the thing that was difficult and slow using paper. Constructivist theory says commenting is knowledge. No reaction, no traction!

Like you, I often spend time crafting comments that might arguably be better devoted to "my own blog." In fact, many articles there are based on rejected comments. As these are the most interesting comments, I do like to make a particular point of ensuring they are published. Yes, I do always save them in a text file before hitting the "submit" button: bitter experience has made me awkward like that.

I bookmark all my comments online, so they can easily be compiled as a retrospective (like CiF makes it easy to do, but from anywhere on the web). You could even pull out an RSS feed from there, if you want to follow along. Then of course there's Disqus.

Commenting on blogs is endless fun, and philosophically sound. Old school above-the-liners, jealous of their privilege, may deprecate commenters' efforts, but there's nothing more dodgy than a website that pretends to accept comments, and actually doesn't. And the only way to call them out is to compose that comment, and try to submit. Keep going! Your comments are valuable.

[juliuzbeezer comment published 18 Oct 2014 23:37: http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/oct/12/happy-20th-anniversary-dave-winer-inventor-of-the-blog#comment-42421584]Douglas Carnall, @juliuzbeezerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13563159368217318352noreply@blogger.com
